About "stats packages" for Psyc941 (and 942)

You are not required to purchase SPSS (or any statistical package), but you must ensure
that you have “working access” to the statistical package(s) you choose to use, so
that you consistently complete assignments in a timely fashion.

-- The SPSS handouts show how to do all the things we will do in SPSS (both GUI & syntax)
-- you are welcome to use any statistical package you like
-- The caveat is that I'm unlikely to be useful if you have problems with other packages
-- Whatever package(s) you choose, you must complete all parts of all assignments. You
may not skip any part of any assignment because the software you've chosen to use
does not support that model or analysis.

Quiz #2 will be available in DLC Testing Center.

You must take both sections of Quiz 2a during one visit to the Testing Center,
within these dates. You can not take different sections of the Exam during
different "visits" or "sittings."

After the DLC closes each evening I'll grade the Quizzess taken that day
and post the updated Online Gradebook. After it is graded you can review the
quuiz by following this Mobius handout!

Please don't use the Canvas "Grades" to look at your Quiz grades!! It doesn't
score things properly, it won't let you see your answers and the feedback, etc.
Please use the Online Gradebook to see scores for each Quiz section and
your overall Quiz grade and use the Mobius handout to go into Mobius and
see all parts of your quiz, answers, feedback, etc.

If you want to improve your Quiz 2 score -- you can take Quiz 2b!!
You should NOT take Quiz 2b until Quiz 2a is graded and you have had an opporunity
to review it, ask questions if you like, etc. So, I recommend you don't put off taking
Quiz 1a until the end of the testing perio

Note about Retaking Quiz 2 Story Problems: For Quiz 1 the Story Problems
were spread across several pages, but there was only one "Story Problems"
score (of 60 pts). The Quiz 2 Story Problems are spread across five pages
(Choosing Stats, Correltion, Chi-square, BG ANOVA, & WG ANOVA, and each
page has a separate score (12 points each).

If you decide to take Quiz 2b, you can take retake the Essay section (answer
all of the essays), the Choosing Stats section (answer the whole page).
Correlation section (answer the whole page), Chi-square section (answer the
whole page), BG ANOVA section (answer the whole page) or WG ANOVA
section (answer the whole page), any combination of the sections, or all
of the sections -- your choice! Whatever sections you choose to take,
you must take all sections of Quiz 2b during one visit to the Testing Center.

Your grade for the Quiz will be based on your best score on each section of
the Quiz. If you take a section of Quiz 2b and do poorer than you did on that
section of Quiz 2a, your score on that section of the quiz will be taken
from Quiz 2a.

Oct 19 will be the last day to complete Quiz 2 Pink Things for points

Quiz 2 Grade
Your final grade for Quiz 2 will be based on the highest score for each
section of the exam
Essays(60pts), Choosing Stats (12pts), r(12pts), Chi(12pts),
BGF(12pts) & WGF(12pts)


* Pink Things give you practice with key elements of the content and processes we are studying. You
are expected to complete these exercises after the material related to each has been
presented (ideally before the next lecture, so you have learned the informaton and can build on it!).

About buying SPSS -- a couple of things to consider!
This is based on conversation with one of their sales folx.
I suggest verifying it with other students who currently run spss
Let me know anything I've gotten wrong, please1

-- The SPSS Grad Pack Standard -- has all the models we will use in 941 & 942
-- The SPSS Grad Pack Base -- is missing GLM: Repeated Measures, so it
won't do WG ANOVA (941) or Mixed Factorial ANOVA (942)
-- If you want to buy the less expensive Base version, you can plan to use the computers
in 230 Burnett Hall, which have all the models we will use, for those couple assignments
-- you might be able to save money buyiung an "older model". I'm currently running v24
and it does all we'll do together
